Contrary to popular belief, the IRS does not have a strict "50-mile rule." However, most staffing agencies use this radius as a standard benchmark.
Safety & PPE
Before you mobilize, ensure your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) meets current site standards. Getting run off a site for non-compliant boots is a rookie mistake.
-
Head Protection: ANSI/ISEA Z89.1-2014 compliant. Many industrial sites now require carbon fiber or fiberglass hard hats.
-
Eye Protection: Z87+ rated safety glasses with side shields. Always carry a clear pair for indoor/night work and a tinted pair for outdoor work.
-
Footwear: ASTM F2413 rated. Most industrial sites require a defined heel (for ladders) and at least 6-inch lace-up uppers.
-
High Visibility: Class 2 or Class 3 vests/shirts. Orange vs. Green is often dictated by craft or tenure.
